In this blog entry, we will delve into the scientific intricacies of vacuum infusion in the propagation of forest cuttings, gaining insights into the principles and mechanisms that render it a highly effective method for fostering the growth of forest cuttings
Forests are the lungs of our planet, vital for biodiversity, climate regulation, and human well-being. Unfortunately, they face numerous threats, including deforestation, disease, and climate change.
Planted forests (and, of course, Reforestation) are a critical solution. The unique technique called OptiBoost has gained traction recently. In this blog post, we’ll take a deep dive into the science behind vacuum infusion in forest cuttings propagation, understanding the principles and mechanisms that make it such an effective method for propagating forest cuttings.
Great results have been achieved for Eucalyptus, Pine, Acacia, and Corymbia thus far.
Vacuum infusion is a technique that supports propagation and leverages the principles of reduced air pressure to enhance the absorption of essential nutrients and water by plant cuttings. By creating a controlled vacuum environment, this method stimulates the cuttings to uptake the infusion solution more effectively, thereby improving their chances of successful rooting and growth.
A specialized chamber is used, equipped with a pump to create the controlled vacuum environment. As the air pressure is reduced, it sets the stage for efficient nutrient and water absorption.
The prepared cuttings are submerged in the infusion solution within the vacuum chamber. As the air pressure drops, the pressure gradient facilitates the movement of the infusion solution into the cuttings. This triggers the cuttings to absorb the solution and supports the rooting process.
The vacuum infusion system we offer is uniquely designed for treating cuttings; we call it FC1. The patented system consists of one treatment unit and one control unit.
The treatment chambers are optimized to enable the nutrient solution to reach the cells of the treated cuttings efficiently. The cuttings are impregnated with the optimal amount of solution.
The system ensures that every single cutting is thoroughly enriched with essential nutrients by combining the right vacuum parameters with carefully designed nutrient solutions.
The effects of OptiBoost are tangible from the nursery to the forest. In the end, the outcome is a greater proportion of high-value trees.
In conclusion, vacuum infusion is a technique that combines science and technology to enhance the survival and growth of forest cuttings. By harnessing the principles of reduced air pressure and capillary action, vacuum infusion offers a promising solution to address the challenges of reforestation and promote the health and sustainability of our forests. As we face environmental challenges, this innovative approach offers hope for the preservation and restoration of our precious ecosystems.

OptiCept has been conducting an extensive research project aimed at improving the propagation and growth rates of pine cuttings. The results so far have been overwhelmingly positive, confirming that OptiBoost enhances the rooting rate of pine cuttings while also accelerating their growth rate by more than 10%.

The numbers speak for themselves: eucalyptus cuttings treated with OptiCept’s technology are showing an average rooting rate increase of at least 77% per customer!
